Creating a Resource Activity
A Resource Activity is a special type of activity that represents a reusable connection or credential configuration — for example, an OAuth-authenticated API connector, an SFTP server profile, or an Azure Blob Storage connection.
Unlike a Simple Activity (which performs a single action), a Resource Activity defines how to connect to an external service. When a workflow builder places a resource in their workflow, they are creating an instance of that connection with their own environment-specific credentials.
Location: Library > My Artifacts > Resource Templates — click Create.
The Activity Type is automatically set to Resource when accessed from this section.
Resource Activity vs. Other Resource Concepts
Koodisi has several resource-related concepts. Here is how they relate:
| Concept | What It Is | Where It Lives |
|---|---|---|
| Resource Activity | The reusable activity definition that describes a connection type | Library > My Artifacts > Resource Templates |
| Resource (instance) | A named instance of a Resource Activity placed inside a specific workflow or application | Application > Resources folder |
| Managed Resource | A platform-level deployed connection with live credentials | Deployment Page > Managed Resources |
| Resource Template | A blueprint for a Managed Resource, tied to an IDP | Library > My Artifacts > Resource Templates |
The Creation Wizard
Creating a Resource Activity uses the same 4-step wizard as a Simple Activity:
| Step | Name | Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Add Details | Name, type, linked IDP, group, description, icon |
| 2 | Configuration | Design the connection configuration form |
| 3 | Testing | Validate the connection |
| 4 | Publish | Review and publish organisation-wide |
Step 1 — Add Details
Most fields are identical to the Simple Activity Add Details step. The key difference is the Activity Type and the additional Identity Provider field.
Fields
| Field | Required | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Icon | Optional | SVG icon shown in the activity palette and resource picker. |
| Resource Name | Required | Unique identifier for this resource activity. No spaces or special characters; max 35 characters. |
| Activity Type | Auto-set | Automatically set to Resource when creating from the Resource Templates section. |
| Select Identity Provider | Required | Link this resource to an Identity Provider. Determines which OAuth provider handles authentication. |
| Activity Group | Required | The group this resource activity belongs to in the palette. |
| Description | Optional | Markdown-supported description of what service this resource connects to. |
| Tags | Optional | Labels for filtering and discovery. |
| Access | Optional | Default: on. Controls organisation-wide visibility. |
Identity Provider Field
The Select Identity Provider field links this resource activity to a configured IDP. This association:
- Determines which OAuth endpoints are used for token exchange.
- Controls whether the Platform Credentials step appears (if the IDP supports Authorization Code + Default Connection).
- Makes this resource compatible with Managed Resources deployed from the corresponding Resource Template.
The IDP field is locked after the resource is saved — you cannot change the linked provider in edit mode.
Step 2 — Configuration
The Configuration step opens the Activity Form Builder. For a resource activity, you design the form that appears when a workflow builder configures a connection instance.
Typical fields to include for common resource types:
OAuth Resource
- Environment selector (which IDP environment to use)
- OAuth scopes (which permissions to request)
- Auth context or token reference (as a Mappable Field bound to
header/Authorization)
SFTP Resource
- Host (
textfield) - Port (
numberfield, default22) - Username (
textfield) - Authentication type (password or SSH key — use a
selectfield) - Password / SSH Key (
passwordortextfield)
ABS (Azure Blob Storage) Resource
- Account Name (
textfield) - Container Name (
textfield) - Authentication method (Shared Key or SAS Token — use a
selectfield)
Step 3 — Testing
Test the resource connection with real credentials before publishing. Enter test values for each configuration field and click Run Test to validate that the connection can be established successfully.
Step 4 — Publish
Review the resource activity summary and click Publish to make it available organisation-wide.
Once published, the resource activity:
- Appears in the resource picker when workflow builders add a resource to an application.
- Can be used as the basis for a Resource Template (when accessed via the Library > My Artifacts > Resource Templates flow).
Using a Resource in a Workflow
After a Resource Activity is published:
- Open an application in the workflow designer.
- In the left panel, navigate to Resources.
- Click Add Resource.
- Select the published Resource Activity from the list.
- Provide a name for this resource instance and configure the connection fields.
- The resource is now available for activities in that application to reference (e.g., a REST Client activity can select it as its auth context).
Editing a Resource Activity
The resource name is locked in edit mode. All other fields — including the form layout — can be updated. Changes create a new draft version; the live version continues running until the draft is published.
