Renaming an Application

Rename an application when its current name no longer describes what it does. Studio updates every reference to the application automatically, so renaming is safe to do at any point.

Before you begin

You need the permission to update applications in the workspace. Without it, Rename is unavailable. You cannot rename a Git-enabled application that has not yet been cloned into your workspace.

Rename an application

  1. Right-click the application in the Applications panel and select Rename.
  2. Enter the new name and press Enter.

The name has the same rules as when you created the application: up to 50 characters, letters, numbers, underscores, and single spaces, no hyphens or other special characters, and not one of the reserved names oe, ivoyant, or system. It must also be unique within the workspace.

How you know it worked

A confirmation message reads Application renamed successfully, and the new name appears in the Applications panel.

When it does not work

If the name is rejected, the field stays in edit mode and reports the reason — most often that another application in the workspace already uses that name. Press Escape to cancel the rename and keep the original name.

Next steps

Renaming changes only the display name. If the application is deployed, review its deployment profile so the deployed name still matches your team's conventions.
